DONDA BEAR Update 3: Features & Accessories

DONDA BEAR Update 3

Enhancing the DONDA BEAR

Hey everyone! We hope you found our last update informative. Today, we’re excited to bring you Update 3. This time, we’re highlighting the distinctive features and accessories, and exploring the creative design processes that make this figurine truly special.

While the mask accessory was relatively straightforward to design and sample, the other features required a lot more time and consideration than originally anticipated. Initially, we intended the pegged eyes to be simple pegs, but we soon realized they would be hard to remove without altering the face of the bear. Our next step was to attach our 'shoe-pegs' to the eyes, which provided a better friction fit and made them easily removable from the inside. Additionally, this modification allowed the bonus of a removable head.

The magnetic cap was an extra feature we wanted to try out. Although this particular K/BEAR design didn't need a cap, we felt this was a good opportunity to test out a feature we would need for future figures. It was also a way to link the figure to a broader DONDA experience, rather than limiting it to a single look or listening party. With that in mind, the cap is a hybrid of the 'legendary 6ix' cap worn during the 3rd listening party and the Yeezy Gap flame cap, with the '6ix' logo redesigned into a ‘B’ for Bear.

Here are some revisions we went through before settling on our 'final' feature in the next video. After adding the 'shoe-pegs', we remade the eyes, giving them a more rounded shape. I personally feel this made it look 100% better. We also completed the magnetic cap and peg-boots, rounding off the features for this figure.

In the end, we settled on this iteration of pegged eyes along with the magnetic cap. Keep in mind that the factory engineers will have to test these ideas out and make necessary adjustments as well, so the job's not done just yet...
