DONDA BEAR Update 12: Final Footwear Fixes

DONDA BEAR Update 12

Soleful Journey

Hi guys! In this update, we’re highlighting one of the final adjustments we made to the K/BEAR: DONDA figure before starting the mold process. So, without any further delay, let’s get right into Update 12!

For those who remember Update 5, we had to fix the boots while working on the prototype. The version we ended up with, which you can see above, was adequate, but it wasn’t exactly what we originally envisioned. We knew there was still room for improvement to better match the original boots, and that's what today's update is about.

The original boots weren’t half-bad, but we wanted to get as close as possible to the Balenciaga Black Bulldozer Lace-up Boots (yes, we do our research!), especially when it came to capturing the intricate construction of the sole. To kick things off, we revisited the original boot photos and our early boot illustrations. From there, we created linework showing exactly what needed to change. While the final design had to remain stylized, we knew we could elevate it beyond the previous version.

We went through several revisions, including improving the outsoles of the boots. We even went so far as to change the rounded gaps under the boots to angled ones to match thee originals. We even attempted to mimic the branding on the bottom of boots, but the text ended up being too small to read clearly.

While there were still a few concessions we had to make, we finally landed on a boot design that we’re truly proud of. This is the kind of research and dedication we pour into creating our figures, and we know you guys appreciate the effort.
