Concepts for the DONDA BEAR Figure
Hey guys, thank you for joining us for our upcoming DONDA BEAR release. We wanted to involve you in a cool way by taking you through the figure-making process. Here, you'll get exclusive access and insight into our work than what we generally post on social media. Hope you enjoy the ride!
We originally developed several Bear ideas and designs to represent the Donda album, mainly to know what was feasible for our factory to make. Of course the Spike Bear was the favourite, and the one that got chosen, but we needed to determine whether it was possible to make.
Once the factory confirmed they could make the Spike Bear, we created detailed breakdown-illustrations focusing on the pose and details. We then refined the features this new figure would have. Our ethos as a creative team is to elevate our work with each new creation. For our 1st Bear, the standout feature was the removable/changeable shoes. This time, we've added interchangeable eyes and a mask, in addition to removable boots. This means the new figure will be compatible with all our original shoes.
The mask idea was a cool addition but it also brought up some issues. Without testing, it was quite difficult deciding on the style or material. In the illustration above, we thought about using fabric, hard or malleable plastic but ultimately, we settled on fabric. With all the details and features figured out, everything's ready to create a 3d model in Update 2.
